In December, I traveled to Jeju Island with a friend for the first time in a long time.
I think it was my first Jeju island trip since the pandemic, and it’s been a long time.
I enjoy moderate hiking, so I went on a hike with my friend along Hallasan National Park Yeongsil trail for exercise. Hallasan mountain has several hiking trails, and among them, the Yeongsil Course is renowned for its breathtaking scenery.
I’ve been to the Seongpanak course before, but I found it too long and difficult. However, if the weather is good, you can see Baengnokdam Crater Lake.
Hallasan National Park Yeongsil trail may not be a trail where you can see Baengnokdam, but it is very famous for its beautiful scenery, so I went there with my friend. The hiking difficulty is not too challenging, so if you’re someone who usually hikes, it shouldn’t be too difficult, I believe.

I. How to get Hallasan National Park Yeongsil trail
Hallasan National Park Yeongsil trail has two parking lots, and starting from either Ohbaekjanggun and the Crow Shelter(Second car park) can significantly reduce hiking time. In case of heavy snowfall, vehicle access may be restricted, so set your navigation to Ohbaekjanggun and the Crow Shelter. And decide if you can get there in person.

Due to heavy snow, we parked at the first parking lot. The trail from here to Ohbaekjanggun and the Crow Shelter was the most challenging. You should consider an additional hour for the hiking time.
If possible, I strongly recommend parking at second car park.
Anyway, after about an hour of hiking along the trail, you’ll reach Ohbaekjanggun and the Crow Shelter. You can use the restroom here or purchase any necessary items as it’s your last chance, so be sure to prepare if you need anything.
From this point onward, you truly start walking the mountain path. If you take your time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures along the way, you might find yourself reaching the summit of Witseoreum without feeling the difficulty.
I tend to have good luck with weather when I travel, and it was the same for this trip to Jeju Island. I’ve always wanted to hike a snow-covered mountain, and my wish came true! There was snow on the ground, it didn’t snow while I was hiking, and the weather was fantastic. It was a very lucky trip.
The scenery was so breathtaking that I wanted to spend a night on the snow-covered mountain. It was a shame that I should descend the mountain.
In Hallasan mountain, you’re not allowed to cook or camp, and there are no lodges where you can sleep. Perhaps it’s to maintain the cleanliness of Hallasan national park.
When going to a snow-covered mountain, be sure to bring crampons and trekking poles. Always be aware of the potential dangers, and dress appropriately.
If you enjoy Jeju island, I highly recommend trying the hike regardless of the season, especially Hallasan National Park Yeongsil Course! If the goal is to enjoy the mountain scenery, opt for the Yeongsil Course. It was truly exotic and beautiful.
II. Extra introduce: 1100 road
It’s a shelter in the middle of Hallasan Mountain with a view of it. It’s so famous that many people visit it.
There are not enough parking spaces, so you have to park on the road.
It’s on the 1100 road, so if you’re passing by Hallasan mountain, you should stop by and feel the atmosphere of Hallasan national park. It’s very close to Yeongsil Course, and when it snows, you can see a really nice view.
